The Granary, Bearsted, Kent
The Granary, Bearsted is a former granary, which was converted in the early 90s into a 1 bedroom house, with an inverted plan. The house is Curtilage Listed as part of the adjacent Grade II Chapel Lane Farm Property.
Our clients wanted to enlarge their house creating a second bedroom and a larger open plan living, kitchen, dining space to accommodate their growing family.
We worked closely with our clients and Maidstone Borough Council’s planning and conservation officers to gain them a new single storey timber clad extension containing the living, kitchen and dining space linked directly to the garden. The original building is converted to have two bedrooms and a bathroom.
The Planning and Conservation Officers were keen that the materials used for the extension and refurbishment of the property were in keeping with agricultural area and we developed with them a design that ensured the extension remained subservient to the exiting build whilst give our clients the space they needed.
